«The Feldberg Painter»

Karl Hauptmann was born on 25th of April in 1880 in Freiburg i.Br., Germany. He received his artistic training in Nürnberg and Munich and was thereafter engaged as a decorative painter.
In 1908 he produced the first of what were to be his typical Black Forest paintings. In the years between 1915 and 1919, he produced numerous images of the Alpine region he had visited during his deployment with the mountain infantry in the First World War.
In 1918 Karl Hauptmann purchased «Molerhüsli», which for him encompassed his dwelling, atelier, and exhibition space. It soon became a favourite meeting place for skiers, hikers, students, and visitors to Feldberg.
Due to Hauptmann’s ever-present health problems, his doctor prescribed a trip to Italy in 1940, to which he again travelled the following year.
On 7th of April in 1947, Karl Hauptmann died at the age of 67 at his «Molerhüsli».

Schamanen-Vogel
Shamanic bird. Costa Rica circa 1200 AD. Gold. Ringlet to back. Signs of age. According to the consignor the object is part of a large collection of which a sample group of 15 objects has been tested and dated to circa 1200 AD. The analysis was carried out by Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Richter, Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste, Stuttgart, 04.02.1991. Provenance: Baden private collection. Literature: Carlos H. Costa Rica um 1200 n. Chr. Gold. Stilisierte, vogelartige Figur mit langem, gekrümmtem Schnabel, kugelförmigen Augen über Spiralornamenten, vielfach profiliertem Hals und kugelförmigem Korpus. Ausgebreitete Schwingen mit angedeuteten Federn, plastischen Füßen und großem, breitem Schwanz. Rückseitig Ringöse. Altersspuren. H. 8 cm, B. 11,5 cm. 58 gr.
Laut Einlieferer handelt es sich um ein Objekt aus einer großen Sammlung, aus der stichprobenartig 15 Objekte analysiert und um 1200 n. Chr. datiert wurden. Die Analyse wurde durchgeführt von Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Richter, Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste, Stuttgart, 04.02.1991.
